In the high desert, where the regular grass is sparse, the Diamond Peak Simangus' cattle forage on nutrient-rich Salt Sage, Indian Rice and other hard grass. Instead of regular grass that carries a lot of water, these hard grasses provide for a stronger build and more resilient make-up.
There is a lot of clay in the high desert country and it doesn’t rain often. But when it does, it comes down in large quantities. The rain accumulates in every hole and stays around for a while. So our cattle get to go to fresh feed after every rain.
